The Story Behind joywanderings

joywanderings started with a simple idea: slow down and notice where you are.

I’m Joy, and I’ve learned that my favorite travel moments rarely happen when I’m rushing from one landmark to the next. They happen on trains, along rivers, down streets I didn’t plan to walk, and in those ordinary little moments when I have no idea what’s around the next corner.

This is a place for slow wandering, natural sounds, beautiful places, unexpected detours, and travel as it actually feels—not a checklist of things to see, but the experience of being somewhere.

My approach to travel is rooted in the art of slowing down. I focus primarily on Germany and the German-speaking regions of Europe, where the rhythm of life invites a deeper connection with the surroundings. It is not about checking landmarks off a list, but about the transition between places—the steady hum of a train crossing a valley or the changing light over a quiet Alpine village.

I find beauty in the ordinary: the texture of wet cobblestones in a rain-soaked plaza, the solitary peace of a morning hike, and the simple ritual of an afternoon coffee in a neighborhood square. These everyday moments are the true soul of a journey, offering a sense of presence that hurried travel often overlooks.
